Mary Poppins comes back on the end of a kite string, stays with the Banks family for a while, and then disappears on a merry-go-round horse.

Almost as good as the first

I don't think it is merely familiarity with the film that prompts me to rate this lower than the first book. A few times this book seems derivative, as if trying slightly too hard to replicate the elements of the first. However, it's still delightful and absurd, and like the first book, leaves Mary Poppins a very mysterious and delightful character indeed.
